Kevin McGuire

General Manager/Head Professional – Willbrook Plantation

  • Years at the course: 23
  • Years in the Myrtle Beach market: 29
  • Years in the golf industry: 29
  • Birthplace/Hometown: Brick Township, New Jersey
  • College: N/A
  • Favorite hole at your course: No. 15, par-5, 572 yards: The course’s No. 1 handicap hole. “This hole requires length off the tee, and then the second shot must navigate a raised fairway. The second shot visually can be very intimidating as bunkers guard the left side of the fairway and out of bounds (wetlands) protect the right side of the fairway. The green is elevated and guarded by 2 bunkers short and out of bounds should you go long.
  • Favorite thing about your course or club: “I love all the history that can be found around the course. Willbrook was once an active rice plantation. Numerous signs can be found throughout the course denoting all the historical areas and information. I also love all the wildlife you can encounter. We have a ton of alligators!”
  • Strangest request from a customer: ” ‘Would you mind if we took our car instead of a golf cart on the course’ (due to cold temperature). With a completely straight face, they promised to keep it on the cart path. Needless to say we could not fulfill this request!”
  • CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened at your course: “We had a husband and wife from Ireland drive a cart into the pond on the 18th hole. As we were pulling the cart out of the pond with a tractor, the beverage cart was passing by. In a beautiful Irish accent the man asked me if he could borrow some money to buy a cocktail. He said this was one of the most stressful rounds he has had in quite some time. His wallet was in his bag . . . on the cart . . . in the pond. I bought him and his wife a drink and to this day we still keep in contact on Facebook. He and I continue to tell this crazy story and it gets better each time we tell it!”
