Classic Golf Group will will take over operation of Wedgefield Plantation Country Club in Georgetown on July 1, 2012. Wedgefield joins Founders Club of Pawleys Island, Burning Ridge Golf Club, Black Bear Golf Club and Indian Wells Golf Club in the in the stable of Classic Golf Group courses.
Wedgefield has a classic Lowcountry appearance and terrain with a brick manor house, wetlands and moss-draped live oaks throughout the property. It is a 7,034-yard Porter Gibson and Bob Toski design that opened in 1972.
Classic Golf Group had eight Myrtle Beach area courses before the sales of the Burning Ridge West Course, Quail Creek Golf Club (now the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina) and International Club of Myrtle Beach resulted in the end of management contracts, and Crown Park Golf Club ended its agreement. The company last added a course with the purchase of Black Bear in 2003.
